The Nike Corporation has the saying, “Just do it” in many of  its advertising campaigns.  They infer that if you wear Nike products, you are to just go out and do well at whatever you attempt. When I was at Word of Life Camp years ago, I met a man I will never forget.  His name was Don “Robbie” Robertson.  He was a giant in the faith (although he stood only 5′ 4″ tall) in his ability to communicate the Word of God to both youth and adults.  He was known on the Word of Life Island, as the “worlds oldest teenager’.  He had boundless energy!   But most of all, he was known for his love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!  He signed his name in  my Bible with the phrase, John 13:17. “DO IT”!  So you see, he probably was the one who first used this phrase long before Nike ever thought of it!

What did Robbie mean, “DO IT”?  Do what?  In the complete context of John 13: 12-17, Jesus was washing the feet of His disciples and was giving them the pattern of service.  He was their Master, yet, He showed them love and concern and how they should serve one another. This was the love that the disciples were to show each other as well as those in the world.

This is what Jesus meant . “If you know these things, happy are you if you do them”!  Also, this is what Robbie’s voice echoes in my ears today.  Jesus has set the example for how to serve others–if I believe it– I will DO IT!

What about you?
